Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love played in minimal preseason action against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday afternoon. On the first drive for Green Bay, Love threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Dontayvion Wicks in a 23-10 win over Cleveland.
It was the only drive Love participated in for the day. There was no need for him to play any more than that. Love completed 2-of-2 passes for 63 yards and one touchdown. It appears as if Love may not play in more preseason action before the start of the 2024 season. It was also the only action Wicks saw on the day.
Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Jayden Reed were also dressed for the Green Bay Packers against the Cleveland Browns. They all will have a role in this offense this year. The touchdown reception for Wicks was the only pass he caught in this football game.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks Had Good Chemistry Last Season With Quarterback Jordan Love
Last year, Love had perfect chemistry with Wicks. A season ago, he caught 39 passes for 581 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 14.9 yards per catch. Wicks was also targeted 58 times last season. As of now, he is projected to be with the second unit entering the 2024 season.
How often will head coach Matt LaFleur decide to have him in 4-wide sets this season? It remains to be seen how often they will be used this season. After Love was pulled from the game, Sean Clifford came in relief and completed 10-of-19 passes for 111 yards. Michael Pratt also came in the game and completed 5-of-7 passes for 46 yards.
Clifford and Pratt are battling it out to be Love’s backup for the 2024 season. Sean Clifford was the backup last year. Michael Pratt is looking to be the backup this year after being a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Tulane.
More importantly, where will Wicks be on the depth chart once the preseason ends for the Packers? Will he be with the second unit still or will he bump out Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, or Jayden Reed? Can Dontayvion Wicks be a good fantasy pickup this year? It remains to be seen, but the next preseason game for the Green Bay Packers will be against the Denver Broncos.
