Alabama football still has ongoing competition at the right tackle spot, but it seems to be down to two players.
Wilkin Formby and Elijah Pritchett.
Kadyn Proctor seems to have won back the left tackle spot after his brief departure for Iowa. So four spots are fairly solidified on the offensive line. The right tackle spot remains the question mark.
“It’s a continuous battle,” offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic said Wednesday. “I see improvement from both. Both of the guys are battling out there right now. I see some improvement for the 2s going at left tackle as well. But I would say it’s just going to go on throughout camp until somebody shows they’re clearly better than the other.”
It doesn’t sound like that has happened yet with just over two weeks until the first game of the season against Western Kentucky on Aug. 31. But Kapilovic seems to like the contenders.
“Wilk does a great job of understanding the scheme and what we need to get accomplished,” Kapilovic said. “He makes good calls. He has the tools to be a very good player. Pritchett, when he is playing and he’s playing hard and with a little edge to him, he can be a physically dominating player. When that shows up, he does a really nice job in pass pro and the run game.”
They have room to improve, though. Kapilovic said he would like to see more push from Formby and more consistency from Pritchett.
“I have no problem, if two guys are improving and doing a good job, there’s nothing wrong with playing two guys out there,” Kapilovic said.
